Main outlook at Coopers Rock is just above plot. Area is popular day-use recreation area with extensive network of trails. Downslope 20-40 m grades to younger forest.;Upper gorge slope, just below sandstone rimrock cliffs, with giant eroded bedrock "boulders". Old growth aok-ericad forest is centered on rocky area, forest canopy is relatively open due to gaps over boulders. Between the rocks are large chestnut oak, black gum mixed other acid tolerant species. Understory is dominated by large, sprawling rhododendron, with a browseline. Forest floor is heavily trampled bu access to climbing and exploration.
